Our Story

Australian Way Pty Ltd (awpl) was founded as a tourism retail business in 1990, with the opening of the first Australian Way store on Melbourne’s Collins Street. After years of growth in shopping centres including Australia on Collins, The Royal Arcade, Daimaru, and The Strand the company commenced their airport retail journey.

In 1995, awpl opened its first airport store in Brisbane Airport, marking the beginning of its evolution into a world-class travel retailer. The driving force of this evolution has been the meticulous, honest, and hands-on approach from Managing Director and founder Costa Kouros, whose strong belief in leaving a positive and memorable feeling with all customers continues to resonate through the business.

Today, awpl has over 50 stores in 11 airports around Australia and New Zealand, with concepts in the following categories

Our Support Centre

Located in Port Melbourne, Victoria, our Support Centre exists to support our stores our people and our customers. The Support Centre is made up of over 40 people in various teams such as: People & Culture, Merchandise, System & Innovation, Finance, Operations, Marketing, and Design. We’re a big family that continues to grow and evolve, and are always willing to lend a hand.
